Description: Join local author and historian RICK BRITTON at the historic and beautiful Silver Thatch Inn (3001 Hollymead Drive, Charlottesville, VA) on MONDAY, OCTOBER 9 from 10am to noon for a 2-hour workshop on writing feature articles. Basing this class on his own experience, Rick will reveal the styles and writing techniques that have worked for him. Some of the topics covered will include: Powerful Openings (how to hook the reader), The Nut Graf (so misunderstood), Chronological Writing (do you have to?), Strong Finishes (leave 'em wanting more!). Join us for an informative and fun-filled workshop!

ABOUT OUR PRESENTER - Now an award-winning author, Rick Britton worked for years as a broadcast journalist and travel/feature writer before turning his attention to writing Virginia history. During this time in the journalistic trenchesworking under a host of variously talented editorsRick picked up a number of writing tips that have greatly benefited his history writing.

ADMISSION: FREE for Blue Ridge Writers Chapter Members (including Skyline and SWAG); Non-Members/Guests $10, payable at the door.

ABOUT THE BLUE RIDGE WRITERS: The Blue Ridge Writers is a chapter of the Virginia Writers Club, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1918. The Chapter serves both aspiring and published writers in the following region: the cities of Charlottesville, Staunton, Lexington, and Waynesboro, and counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, and Page.

Membership benefits include: programs and activities to encourage continued growth and development of the writing craft and business of writing; opportunities for interaction between new and veteran writers as well as industry professionals who serve writers; promotion of a member's writing or publishing related achievement; hosted and/or co-sponsored events to serve and/or promote Virginia writers; and, writing contests.

The mission of the Blue Ridge Writers Chapter is to support and stimulate the art, craft, and business of writing, as well as be an advocate for literary arts in the region.
